So, because I’ve spent the last too-many years working in front of a computer, I’ve resisted most social networking environments — including myspace. I just wanted to get away from the thing and play music or hang with friends and family after work. Well, this year, just for the hell of it, I started my own myspace page. markrobinett

I was also under the erroneous assumption that the music portion of myspace existed for only pop and rock schlock. Then, a month or so ago, I started really looking around and exploring. Subsequently, I’ve found some of the most amazing music and musicians. My search continues…

Presently, I’m finding the most amazing musicians in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

I just started a new book by the author, Eduardo Galeano, entitled “Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent.” I’ve been meaning to check him out for years and finally got started. So far it’s a great read and a subject I’ve been trying to get smarter about since first reading Noam Chomsky years ago. It’s amazing how many US citizens (including myself for the most part) don’t have a clue about our activities in Latin America over the past century.

I finally bought this recording on CD; it’s been years since I’ve heard it and it’s still amazing—some of Milton’s best songs. At times, the production sounds a little dated but who cares. “A Primeira Estrela” is worth the price alone.

I just bought a really nice CD on the Obliqsound label by Andy Milne + Grégoire Maret entitled “Scenarios.” You might know Gregoire from the Pat Metheny Group. Anyway, this is a very introspective, beautiful CD. Check it out if you have the chance.
Grégoire Maret

I also bought Andy Milne’s solo CD, “solo piano.” Just beginning to listen to this one but, so far, it’s very beautiful.
